In my research, I've found that dental aligners were becoming increasingly popular compared to the traditional braces as they are relatively more convenient, discreet, and easier to clean. Cleaning is easy... at home. Aligners have to be removed before eating and can be a little gross depending on how long they've been in your mouth. Can we make this awkward step better for the overall aligner experience?

As most design projects start, my first reaction is to strt sketching. While useful for finer details, I found that this type of product required a different method of form exploration to find the answer I was looking for.

Immediately I went to the model shop with some yellow foam I had cut into the rough dimensions of the final volume I had to work with. In a short amount of time with just a sanding block, I had much more valuable explorations than if I were to sketch them as these were informed by holding and feeling the form rather than just imagining it.

convenience
The slim housing paired with the UV light makes UVY an incredibly convenient way to stay hygenic while on the go.

Packaging Design
The packaging was designed to use a recycled material called Bagasse which is a fiber byproduct of sugarcane processing. This simple pint-like design helps to suspend the product inside of a tube to help protect it from any damage during shipping.

Charging pad
UVY is wirelessly chargeable which helps prevent water from damaging the electronics inside the case. The wireless charging pad is designed with slots to allow for proper drainage for when you want to clean your aligners and UVY case at the end of the day.
