Project Goal
LYNK is a small, battery powered surgical device that comes in two styles of grip: pencil and pistol. These devices are used on very delicate procedures that involve bones in the hands/arms and feet/legs. As these procedures are tedious and sometimes time consuming, everything from weight to ergonomics has to be considered in order to provide the surgeon with the best possible experience as to not impede their work.

INITIAL CONCEPT WORK
Argenta Park was involved with the conceptual work rendered below early on before we truly knew what components and manufacturing we would be dealing with. This helped inform some decisions around aesthetics and certain functionalities of the devices later on in the pipeline.
The most important thing to note are these changes that were made between that concept project and this project:
Laser welded housing: At no point along the weld profile can we have a sharp corner, 5 mm radius minimum to prevent weld inconsistencies.
Battery cells and amount: The cells were increased in size which directly affects the overall size of the handle.
Universal Driver: This was added to the pistol to allow it to accept a variety of older attachments. This does add more bulk and complexity to the form.

Multidisciplinary Global Team
This team consisted of primarily engineers from Ireland and India while the marketing lead and designers were based in Michigan. Miro became an important tool for communication as we could show our team exactly what we wanted to address and our different solutions to any specific problem that would come up.

Design intent
As this project spanned over the course of over a year, we had to have a checkpoint from the ID perspective on the progress we've made. We did this in order to evaluate if we are heading in the direction we originally intended to set out for. What can we tighten up? What have we lost sight of? What have we done right so far? Have we solved or worked with our constraints? These are all questions we asked ourselves in order to stay true to the design intent.
